Eurocanix Championships
Sopron, Hungary 2009
(Update coming soon - I promise!)
I am so excited to be part of the GB team traveling to Sopron, Hungary in October 2009 with my German Shepherd Katja, (Grangehey Katja Nov EX) to take part in the 12th EuroCanix Championships.
Canix is a sport which, basically, is cross country running with your dog. A diverse range of people enjoy this sport, from a casual run most weekends and a day out with your dog, to those like me, who go one step further, and train most days to get fitter & faster.
To those of you that know me well; I thank you for listening to my constant moaning, as I whinged & wined through shin splints, 3 twisted ankles, suspected stress fractures, and nerve damage! For those that don’t know me so well, I can honestly say I have worked so hard throughout the 2008/09 season, that I have thoroughly earned my place in the team.
Just getting to Hungary is going to be a mammoth task for the team, tom-tom has advised me it’s a mere 1062 miles to get there. Most of the team will travel to Hungary in convoy, we plan to have a 2 day stopover in Germany, not only will this give us a break from driving, but also a chance to have a final training run before the races. We have planned a 6 day stay in Hungary, where we should get time to relax before the racing starts, I am sure the nerves will start to kick in on the Friday evening as all the countries gather together for a team parade through the town of Sopron; there will be a dinner laid on for the teams from the hosting nation after the parade, but I have been informed the GB team will retreat back to camp, for, dare I say, ‘English food’ (after traveling all that way, we are playing safe with what we eat!) Saturday, the racing starts at 8am with a short distance, and hence a very fast race. Sunday will see the 5.3km race; again times will be fast, with the winners expecting Olympic standard times!!!! No pressure at all.
Me & my partner, Katja are so proud to be representing Great Britain in a sport that we love, but please can you help me by sponsoring us? I don’t want to start thinking about the fuel costs yet! Being totally in love with this magnificent breed, I will split any money that I receive between GSD2000, and the GSD owners Information Group.
And,…………………. thank you.
